England’s New Kit
I have never, ever, seen a football kit as foul as this. Let’s get this straight; someone was paid to design this, and then expect others to part with their hard earned cash to purchase one? Nice site though.

Foul is a bit harsh.. Liverpool’s teal Euro kit is foul, as is any kit featuring neon yellow and the like (Chelsea, all Serie A refs).. Can see one thinking it a bit boring, but other than that, relatively non-offensive… they sure seemed to put a lot of thought into it:

I’ll agree with you there Jeff about the Liverpool kit and the neon kits that seem de rigeur at the minute. They are downright horrible. I just don’t think that the vintage look that they have gone for really works, especially considering the effort they put into the manufacture of the material.

agreed… and it’s not as if the whole “retro” design hasn’t been done - Nike pulled the same thing with the Dutch kit for the last World Cup… as a comparison, what country would you say has the best designed kit at the moment?

I can’t recall Brazil ever turning out a horrible kit, and the Italians have a nice strip at the minute. I’m a big fan of simple, classic kits with no fuss and no collar!

Got to disagree there, I like the less-is-more approach as I don’t like or wear sports clothes but I would wear this. It may be a case of running out of ideas and going back to basics but for England their best kits have been the most simple ones, 1982 and 1990’s kits mostly.

John, I also like the less-is-more approach, but don’t you think that the kit is a bit ‘Hackett’? All it needs is that word emblazoned over the chest.
Personally speaking, the best england kit ever was this effort from 1970.

I can see why a lot of people don’t like it. But personally I think it’s great. It’s a no nonsense kit. Classic, bold and well made. I think it reflects well on the way England are playing under Don Fabio at the minute too.
Is that Gill they’ve used for the numbers & letters too?

Ahh you hit the nail on the head with the ‘Hackett’ comment actually as I’d not thought of that!
My personal favourite is the 1990 kit as it evokes loads of good memories, plus I owned the full England shell-suit!

John, good work on the full shell suit! I also had that one too, heh heh!
Ryan, I haven’t seen a picture of the reverse (with letter/numbers) where I can make out the font. However, Gill is being used more and more now for this, especially by Umbro.

Hang on a minute are you really trying to tell us that this a horrible kit compared with the England shirts of the last 15 years. Particularly the last lot.
It might not be perfect but it is a marked improvement AND its not ‘foul’! You haven’t seen the York City Wembley kit (we’ve managed to get to the FA Trophy final, don’t laugh), thats purple!

Matthew (not Matt), I thought that the purple kit was an April fool! I’ve had a look at it and it is alright that.
I think the reason why I hate it so much is that fat southern chavs are going to be wearing this all summer long. David Beckham makes it look ok, but an overweight slovenly wannabee-hooligan, it’s gonna look ridiculous!

Oh, and another point. The white, pleated shorts and white socks make them look like they’re about to play at Wimbledon (in the 1930’s) and not Wembley.

I personally think England have got it spot on.
Classic cut in a classic style. how can that go wrong? Too many of these larger sportwear providers (nike/adidas) generate a generic design that is implemented onto all of their FA clients kits. The only difference being the colours.
BORING!
