Early morning visitors will no doubt be aware that the site suffered some down time this morning.

That’s been resolved, but the intermittent nature of the server dying has led us to consider migrating the site to a new home faster than planned! We’re sorry for the continual problem. We reckon we’ve lost about 5 days of uptime in 2008 alone due to an unspecified problem. It’s a shame that it happens as we’ve experienced some fantastic visitor growth recently, and we want the site to be up 99.9%! So thanks to all those who visit daily and make this worthwhile, and please stick around if the site dips out for an hour or so every now and then. We’ll always be back!

The Book of Surfing is a brand new book designed by a-sidestudio, and published by Bantam Press. Clive Wilson picks it up for us, saying, “It’s being published on June 16. A major strand showcases iconic photography, films and graphics from the last 50 years of this most enduring and influential of subcultures. We’ve commissioned some great contemporary illustration for the book as well.”

Having had a look at the sample spreads, it looks great and I don’t even like surfing! There’s also a cracking 2 minute trailer that goes with the book that you can see on youtube here. If you get a break for a couple of minutes head on over for a look, as it’s well presented and offers a great insight into the book and surfing in general.

It’s wallpaper. That reacts to heat. Amazing! But scroll to the bottom of the page and see the calendar that fades as the day passes, I need that in my life!

The previously featured Autobahn wrote to us last week about a new typeface they’ve created. They said, “For the first edition of the Graphic Design Festival Breda (NL) we designed the FC Autobahn: a font based upon the lines on a soccer pitch. Applied with a chalk cart of course.” Nice work!

Jack Featherstone emailed us to let us know of a self-initiated type project he is working on. Play With Type is an imaginative typographic experiment examining letter-forms in different mediums and in different contexts. You can see what cool things Jack is up to at his site.

This is a really nice business card from soon-to-be-graduate Chloe Trundle. Screen printed by hand too!

Sarah has let us know of about a project she’s involved with called pingg.com. It’s a rather smart looking online event-planning tool with tasteful invitations as well as being ad-free, green friendly and best of all its free to use. It’s a neat little tool to help trying to plan any occasion and wanting to look great doing it. Nice!
