The Ten Commandments: No.3

1998 and Global Mechanic bring you the 2nd in a 10 part series of stop-motion animated shorts called THE TEN COMMANDMENTS. Here, we have Commandment No. 3: Keep Holy the Sabbath Day (which is basically, go to church on Sunday or else!)

Infinity Bridge

Surely something as nice as the recently illuminated Infinity Bridge can’t be in Stockton-on-Tees? Designed by Expedition Engineering, the slender bowstring bridge cuts a distinctive silhouette across the River Tees. A 230m-long concrete walkway is supported by a pair of asymmetric steel arches that appear to skip across the river like a pebble skimming water.

Speirs and Major Associates designed the lighting in such a way that the iconic twin arches reflect in the water at night to form the mathematical symbol for infinity (∞) – hence the name. We’re told the unusual bit about the project is the way the lights respond to the movement of pedestrians, of which there is a video here.

Till Wiedeck

Till Wiedeck dropped us a line to say, “I have updated my website with a big work-update for 2010 including two new typefaces and 13 new projects designed in the past months.” In addition to this cracking update, Till also says, “Furthermore I just lounged HelloYou, a collection of thoughts & things created and curated by HelloMe / Till Wiedeck. This is the place where I will be posting news about the studio, recent activities, thoughts, references and collected things from now on.”

Counter-Print have launched a sister site called Counter-Objects, which will showcase and sell a hand picked selection of contemporary and vintage design. The site will be somewhere where you can purchase cutting edge design from some of the world’s most well known and regarded designers as well as from up and coming talent. The site will include a wide variety of products from poster design to lighting, t-shirts to stationery.
